Andrographis Paniculata
What is it?
Andrographis paniculata, an annual herbaceous plant in the family Acanthaceae, is one of the most commonly used medicinal plants in the traditional systems of Traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine.* It continues to be widely cultivated in India, China, and Southeastern Asia. Known as the “King of Bitters,” its bioactive components called andrographolides have been extensively tested and have demonstrated their ability to promote modulatory activity at multiple points in the chemical signaling pathway of the inflammatory response systems of the body.*
How Does it work?
PRL selected ParActin®, a nature-sourced, patented extract of Andrographis paniculata, as a primary ingredient in our formulation, Premier Joint & Disc. ParActin® is the result of over 20 years of research and development including more than 30 studies of in vitro / in vivo animal models and human clinical trials. This extract’s diterpenoid profile is standardized to clinically established levels that promote a healthy inflammatory response due to the targeting of key chemical signaling pathways which support healthy NF-kB levels and activity, known as the master regulator of our inflammatory response systems.*
Salicin
What is it?
Salicin is a natural compound derived from the bark of the White Willow Tree. The use of White Willow Bark dates back to the early origins of medicine when Hippocrates first documented its efficacy in supporting the body during episodes of minor aches and pains.
How does it work?
Recent science has found evidence that White Willow Bark’s primary phytochemical, Salicin, demonstrates a beneficial effect on both arachidonic acid-derived eicosanoids and cytokine compounds.* Randomized human trials have illustrated Salicin’s ability to influence the inflammatory response systems as a natural inhibitor of both the cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and 5-lipoxygenase enzymes, beneficially modulating the activity of the protein complex nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-kB), thereby regulating inflammatory cytokine production.*
Hyaluronic Acid
What is it?
Optimal levels of synovial fluid in joint cavities is essential to maintaining healthy joints and mobility. Synovial fluid is the “viscous fluid” that supports the integrity of joints by shuttling in nutrients and keeping the cartilage hydrated and healthy. Synovial fluid contains high levels of hyaluronic acid (HA) in its membrane to promote its fluid viscosity and is critical to preserving the normal cartilaginous matrix.* HA is a naturally occurring polymer found in all joints, discs, connective tissue, tendons, bones and cartilage (especially the hyaline cartilage, which covers the ends of bones to provide cushioning).*
How does it work?
HA is considered to be a glycosaminoglycan, composed of alternating units of n-acetyl-d-glucosamine and d-glucuronate. This structure enables it to have the capacity to attract and retain large volumes of water in the extracellular matrix of tissues, various layers of the skin, and within the synovial fluid. Ensuring optimal levels of hyaluronic acid is thus crucial to healthy joint function.*
In Premier Joint & Disc, we use a stabilized form of hyaluronic acid called sodium hyaluronate which is more stable and less prone to oxidation. It is clearly the preferred form to support the health of joints and cartilage.*
